Depression is described as feelings such as loneliness, anger and sadness that interferes your daily chores, resulting in time loss and lower productivity.
Depression may also interfere your relationships and cause other chronic health conditions.
Symptoms of depression for children or teenagers are mood swings such as irritability and anger. Sometimes, it is when you simply feel incompetent. For example, you tell yourself: “I can’t seem to do anything right!” Or, you just feel despair and wanting to cry.
Children who suffer from depression may also refuse to go to school or create troubles in school. Even worse, they may have suicidal thoughts. Often, they have difficulties concentrating, and their performance in school begins to decline. Difficulties in sleeping or sleeping too much and digestive problems are also signs of depression.
Causes of depression: Depression can be traced to the family history. Early childhood trauma such as events that affect the way the body reacts to fearful or stressful situations can also cause depression.
The brain structure also causes less activeness of the frontal lobe leading to medical conditions such as chronic diseases or illnesses, which are potentially the cause of depression. Drug abuse and heavy consumption of alcoholic drinks can also lead to depression.
Treatment: Depression can be treated in many ways, such as taking antidepressant, antianxiety and other antipsychotic medicine. Physiotherapy is also recommended, as a trained therapist can help cope with the negative feelings.
Light therapy is a good help because light dosages of white light can help you regulate your feelings. Alternatives such as herbal supplements, meditation and acupuncture can also help. By simply exercising 30 minutes, every day for three to five days a week will help the body and mind to sync. We must avoid taking drugs and alcohol. It is also important that as we grow up, we learn to set healthy boundaries in life and take care of ourselves such as getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, avoiding negative people and participating in enjoyable activities .
