Did you know that ants do not like certain types of food and chemicals? We can use these things to keep ants away from our homes.
For example, peppermint, lemon juice and cinnamon are strong repellents to ants. You can squeeze a bit of lemon juice into a bucket of water to mop the floor. When ants smell the lemon, they will not come near. Other substances that can also be used effectively are baking soda, Borax and dish soap.
Interestingly, we can also use chalk that we use in school to keep ants away. How? It’s easy! All you need to do is to draw boundary lines around the legs of the dining table and ants will never be able to get to the food!
Ants look for food during the day and at night. They are very hardworking insects. When they have a special task, they will work at it as their mission. Ants never give up easily!
They live in ‘houses’ which are slightly bigger than the ants themselves. This is to protect them, because if their ‘houses’ are too big, then the enemies will be able to see these houses and destroy them.
Ants, like other insects, have three parts of the body – the head, the thorax and the abdomen. They also have six strong legs that help them to carry food that is many times their weight.
