Chang Cheng 88, not the typical Kopitiam

Updated: Jul 25, 2022

The ambience is conducive for food

Chang Cheng 88 Kopitiam is not the typical one-shoplot kopitiam that one is familiar with, but in with 35 stalls occupying two shoplots at Jalan Ambong Kanan 2, Kepong Baru, it is easy for one to get spoiled for choice when there is such a big variety of hawker food to choose from.

Here, they have Fried Char Kway Teow, Fried Carrot Cake, Satay, Prawn Noodles, Western Food, Wonton Noodles, Sarawak Dry Mee, Rojak, Stir Fried Cuisine, Chee Cheong Fun, Stuffed Beans, Tofu, San Jian Zhuang Pork Balls, Pan Mee, Chicken Rice, Fish Head Rice Noodles, Curry Noodles, Jerky Bread, Nasi Lemak, Fried Chicken Rice, Dim Sum and Dispatch Lu Chuan.

There are even some varieties from different countries for those who want a different taste – Taiwan Braised Pork Rice, Indian Rice, Jawa Mee and Thai Cuisine from the beautiful beach of Pattaya. With 50 tables, there are plenty of seats for everyone.

Its first Chang Cheng 88 Kopitiam outlet started at Metro Prima Kepong on August 8, 2017, with 25 tables. Here, they have Nasi Lemak, Satay, Thai Cuisine, Stir Fried Cuisine, Chicken Rice, Wonton Noodles, Hot Plate Noodles, Curry Noodles, San Jian Zhuang Pork Balls and Pork Noodles.

The second branch, Chang Cheng 88 Kopitiam @TSI Business & Industrial Park, was officially opened on May 1, 2021 with 50 tables.

This Chang Cheng 88 Kopitiam@Kepong Baru which we visited is, in fact, the latest addition to the Chang Cheng 88 Kopitiam branches. It was officially opened very recently on July 10, 2022.

The varieties here are enough to satisfy the taste buds of the entire family, so no one would regret picking the place for a meal there.

You can also turn up with a group of your friends to check out the variety of food and enjoy catching up with each other while savouring the hawker street food.

Of course, everyone has different taste buds. But if you are happy with the dish, you can order the same dish the next time you return to the kopitiam.

I happen to be a fan of char kuey teow, because I love its cockles. That’s why I immediately ordered my favourite char kuey teow although if it is not necessary the best char kuey teow I have tasted.

My father, who tasted the Pattaya fried rice, said that the thin slice of egg omelette on the fried rice has a unique taste to it. Although we were supposed to share everything, he finished the omelette himself.

The kopitiams are open from as early as 6:00am in the morning and they close at 11:00pm at night. Their off-days depend on the individual outlet.

The closest train station is MRT Kepong Baru. From here, it is just a short walking distance for those who do not mind to exercise.
