Geppetto the mousedeer and Pinocchio the monkey were the best of friends. They live in Virgin Island, a small island off the Pacific Ocean
On one beautiful morning, Geppetto visited Pinocchio’s house.
Suddenly, they heard a loud sound outside the house. A giant tiger was roaring. It was so loud that the whole earth was shaking.
Picking up enough courage, Pinocchio and Geppetto went out to confront the tiger. “Why did you roar so loudly?” Pinocchio asked.
Proudly, the tiger replied, “My name is Stromboli and I will roar until I am tired. Roar!” Cricketty the grasshopper jumped out of its house. He also complained about the loud roar.
But Stromboli tried to snatch Criketty with its paws. “I will eat you up!” he roared, angrily. Fear spread across the island and no one dared to offend Stromboli. Good thing, Criketty managed to escapeto the nearest rock. He hid under the rock. “I think he will never come out again, Stromboli! You have frightened him,” said Geppetto the mousedeer.
Stromboli stared at Geppetto. At the speed of lightning, Stromboli grabbed him with his paws. He then squeezed Geppetto so hard that he couldn’t move.
Pinocchio took a long piece of wood and hit Stromboli on the hand. Geppetto fell out of Stromboli’s hand and they both escaped. They found a safe house to stay in. They thought to themselves. “What can we do to stop the tiger from roaring?” Pinocchio asked. Geppetto with a happy face, replied, “Hmm, we can set up a trap for Stromboli.”
They agreed with the idea and started to work on it.
An hour passed by, and both Pinocchio and Geppetto had finished setting up the trap for Stromboli.
They came up with a plan. When both of them saw Stromboli from a distance, Pinocchio started running towards Stromboli and shouted, “Yeh, yeh, you can’t get me!”
Stromboli roared and started chasing Pinocchio around the island.
Just then, Pinocchio jumped over a pale of leaves. Not knowing it was a trap, Stromboli stepped on the leaves and fell right down into a very deep hole.
“It is a trap!” Stromboli yelled. “I can’t get out! Help me!”
Stromboli begged to let him out. He promised he would not roar anymore. But no one cared because no one trusted Stromboli anymore. That was the end of Stromboli the tiger. He was never to be heard again. And the inhabitants of Virgin Island lived happily thereafter.
