The world generates at least 3.5 million tons of trash every day, according to World Bank researchers. That weighs at least 23 adult blue whales!
This is even more appalling during the COVID-19 pandemic where people are staying home and ordering things online. The seller will surely package the order using plastics, so that the product or food would not be damaged; this means more plastics would end up in the landfill.
When the product arrives, people normally discard the packaging. You might be throwing 10 cents or even a ringgit away every day! This is the cost of the packing materials used. Online websites also make buying products easier with attractive discounts that cause people to buy things that they do not need.
To avoid this, I think we must all learn to spend money wisely. Do not buy things that you already have; use the items that you buy until it spoils first, then only buy a new one.
Do not buy things without considering the price. Do not buy from the first seller that you see; instead, if you scroll further down, you may find one with a higher rating and a more reasonable price.
The secrets of wise spending is not to buy unnecessary things.
“Cash To Trash” means you pay for a certain thing and then throw it away before it expires or becomes useless. Of course, everything you buy will eventually become trash but we can delay that process.
For example, do not throw away the packaging after receiving your product. If it is cardboard, polyethylene plastics or paper packaging, you can segregate them for recycling.
If it is packaging for food, maybe you can also keep some to reuse. They are very handy to use as food containers.
Learn to recycle papers, plastics, tins and other items from your home to make them usable again before throwing them away or you can also sell these items to the recycling centre to generate some income, instead of turning them into trash.
