Grandma's Out of Coma

The phone rang. Sam could tell that Grandpa’s voice was panicky.

“Your grandma fainted and she is now in the hospital,” Grandpa said.

“Okay, I will let Mom and Dad know,” Sam said.

Putting down the phone Sam shouted to his mother. “Mom! Dad! Po-po is in the hospital! Kong-kong just called a minute ago!”

Anna was busy packing the clothes for a holiday trip to Australia. She immediately dropped everything and looked for Sam’s father, Ron.

“I think we better rush to the hospital right away,” Ron started the car engine. “Everyone, get into the car fast!” Sam and his younger sister, Wendy jumped into the back seat.

Sam’s father loves his mother very much. After a short drive, they finally reached the hospital.

Dr Lee Bee Tee, who was attending to Sam’s grandmother, told them that the old lady was in coma. “I believe she must have fallen ill and the blood pressure shot up,” she said.

When Sam and Wendy went into the room, she could see that their grandmother had a dozen of tubes all over her chest. They were all hooked to a machine that monitored Grandma’s blood pressure.

“Doctor, may we know will Grandma survive the coma?” Wendy asked, tears in her eyes.

“When can she be discharged?” Sam interrupted.

Dr. Lee looked at the two children feeling sorry for them. “As soon as she wakes up, we will monitor her for another one or two days,” she continued. “After that, she can go back home.”

The family returned home, hoping that Grandma would come out of her coma. Eagerly, they waited for the next day to visit the hospital.

After a week, they finally received good news that Grandma can be discharged from the hospital soon. Although they had to cancel their holiday, they were relieved to know that Grandma had recovered fully and would be able to return home in another day or two.

“It’s okay, Mom and Dad, we can still make another trip to Australia next time,” Sam said. “The most important thing is that Grandma is well!”
