Night of the Evil Mask

By Alden Chen

After a fierce war between the forces of good and evil, the gods banished an evil mask to a gem mine.

Now, some 3000 years later, a gem miner dug up the evil mask and sold it to the mask store . A timid little boy named Zac bought the evil mask and wore it on Halloween night.

He went on and had fun until he stumbled across a haunted house. Many children had gone into the house but none ever came out. Zac had heard many horror stories about how young children just disappeared.

There were rumours that some of these children were eaten up by a strange creature in the abandoned house.

Thinking that it was Halloween and he wanted to have some adventure, Zac sneaked into the dilapidated wooden house, and saw many other children were trying to find an exit; some even tried to dig up an exit.

Zac kept watching them until dawn the next day. He felt very sad for these little boys and girls, who had mysteriously disappeared for many years. Their souls were still searching for a way out of the house. He could see all the children because of the masks he was wearing, but none of them could see him.

At one corner sat a 5-year-old girl who was sobbing. Zac felt sorry for her but he could do nothing to soothe her.

At the first ray of sunlight, Zac tried to remove his mask but it did not budge. Using his cell phone, Zac dialled the number to contact the store manager.

“I want you to listen here carefully,” he instructed carefully into the phone. “The only way to remove the evil mask is an act of love. I want you to help someone today!”

As soon as Zac tucked the phone into his pocket, his job was now to rescue the boys and girls out of the haunted house. “I bet they have missed their Moms and Dads,” Zac thought. “I will do something to rescue them.”

He tried to dig up a tunnel as a way of escape for the children, but it did not work. He tried to force open the door, but the lock was too strong.

Feeling sad and hopeless, Zac leaned against one of the walls which had a portrait of an old lady hanging there. To his surprise, the wall creaked open to show a secret passage.

Zac led the children into the secret passage which was part of the exit.

Once Zac led the children out of the haunted house, he finally managed to take off the evil mask.
