Touted as a `cafe by day and restaurant by night’, Mizu Bistro at Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar is a unique concept compared to all the other restaurants I have been to.
It is the perfect place to celebrate special occasions and to treat oneself to some extraordinary food. It offers a fusion of Japanese and Western cuisine.
Because it is a cosy environment, with minimalist design, the bistro gives a ‘feel of home’ ambience that allows people to celebrate with their loved ones on birthdays, graduations, and other special occasions.
At night, the candles on every table give the ambience a romantic vibe which allows couples to enjoy a stress-free evening of good food together.
For those who are not familiar with Japanese, here is the fun fact – `Mizu’ is a Japanese word for water.
Their Cuisines
Since it was brunch, the Katsu Benedict, served with the orangy yuzu hollandaise, which gives it a lovely mix of sweet and salty flavours was an excellent choice.
The question is which to eat first? Chicken or egg, because it is rare that you have both on one serving. I suggest going for the crunchy panko fried chicken first, while taking small bites of the egg in between.
Of course, there is nothing like the pleasure of pouring the tangy yuzu hollandaise over the panko fried chicken and the sunny side eggs.
But, what is more special is the uniqueness of their in-house yuzu hollandaise, which is quite different from the traditional hollandaise sauce.
Next, try their Healthy Keto Brekkie if you are there early in the morning. This reminds me of the Japanese rice cake Mochi. The Eggs Benedict – as the name suggests, you are probably thinking it would look like a sunny side up but no, it is a white ball with an egg fit inside of it – and this is what adds a special taste to the unbeatable dish to start the day. I doubt you can find it anywhere else.
Here, the eggs Benedict are done in such a way that they simply make your meal more appetising. The moment you slice the eggs in half, the egg yolk starts flowing out like a stream of yellow yolky waterfall onto the plate. It adds to the dining experience. The taste of the smoked salmon also blends in well with the rest of the dish.
Since they are known for their health-conscious cuisines, Spicy Yuzu Barramundi is another of their signature dishes that one must order, if they fancy having the barramundi and citrus salad.
The dish may be a bit too spicy for younger children, but generally it should be okay, especially when accompanied with their Pink Flamingo Smoothie for your child, which is a healthy smoothie using strawberries, bananas and raspberry milk.
For the adults, their Honey Sea Salt Shaken Iced Coffee is something that you cannot go without, as you get a good change of taste from the typical iced latte you get from other restaurants.
Here, the barista has a unique way of mixing an espresso with milk, with a twist of different tastes from the sweetness that honey offers, a pinch of sea salt and even cinnamon. It is hard to describe the taste, but you have to try it out yourself.
If you are eating alone for a simple lunch, either their Mizu's Egg Sando or Gyu Sando would be a great choice. The Egg Sando comes with a double dose of creamy-yolked egg and egg mayo, chives and house-made sauce in brioche with chips. For those who love beef, their Gyu Sando comes with a slice of beef sirloin, which is surprisingly not oily even though it is deep-fried.
If you still have the appetite for more, their Tiramisu on French toast is something worth trying. As the word Tiramisù suggests, you should not just “look” at the modern dessert and crave for it, but do what it suggests, “Pick me up”. It is different from our favourite Tiramisu from the Italian restaurant, Bel Pasto which we love.
We had a chance to try other drinks and some other recommended cuisine since there were four of us. What I like about the place is that their service is prompt and the taste of the food is unique, a class of its own.
