A Brief Presentation by Tye Jayrel to Friends in South Africa
Malaysia is a food haven for tourists. Besides the different cultures and languages that we showcase to the world, the cuisines are all very interesting!
Don’t you agree? Today I am going to show the different kinds of food we have in Malaysia! I hope you enjoy it – and most importantly, to make you yearn for it!
The first dish is “mee goreng” mamak, This Indian Muslim dish is the complete package to tickle your taste buds. This delicacy consists of yellow noodles, beef or chicken, shrimp, soy sauce, veggies and eggs and a bit of chilli mixed in for a bolt of spice.
You can try to replicate this dish at home, but it's just not going to taste the way it does when you chow down at that gritty Malaysian hawker stall.
Secondly, the delicious “apam balik.”Oh, you haven't truly experienced Malaysian food until you thrill your taste buds with this sweet treat. A pancake-style snack wedded with the compact package of an omelette, apam balik is stuffed with more than a sufficient amount of sugar, peanuts and the occasional sprinkle of corn, it's a dish that's constantly being reinvented. Mmm D-licious!
Thirdly, the blue rice “nasi kerabu.” If the blue rice doesn't spark your curiosity, the lines of people around the country waiting to order this favourite Kelantanese dish should.
From the state of Kelantan in Malaysia, nasi kerabu gets its eye-grabbing colour from telang flowers, which are crushed and mixed into flour. The dish is topped with bean sprouts and fried desiccated coconut, then drenched in spicy budu, a fermented fish sauce. In true Kelantan style, you use your hands to dig into this one.
You will never experience the true taste of Malaysia’s food unless after you have read this article, you are convinced to visit Malaysia to try these top three famous cuisines yourself.
